    NEW BERN GRAND MARINA YACHT CLUB IS GROWING
    September 19th, 2017 (New Bern, NC)   The New Bern Grand Marina Yacht Club is growing...our sales and operations team to be exact.  Please welcome our newest team members.

    Brian Caudle, a recently retired Commander with the US Coast Guard, joined the New Bern Grand Marina Yacht Club team effective September 4th in the newly created position of Marina Operations Specialist and will lead the charge in evaluating all current marina processes for efficiencies and improvement.  Brian offers over 26+ years as seasoned maritime professional with a solid background in budgeting, finance, and personnel management.

    Annalee Ash is the marina’s newest sales associate and has been hired to work with the marina’s in-house slip sales broker, North Carolina Coastal Properties.  Annalee was recruited from a DC based Residences at Ritz Carlton property where she provided concierge level sales services for a large sales team.  The marina continues to build upon its slip sales program being the only marina in New Bern’s historic district permitted to sell boat slips. “New Bern economic development efforts continue to propel New Bern as an up & coming and very attractive place to live, work and play.  We believe that the local market is priced right for boaters who desire the conveniences of living on the water or owning a boat slip in a thriving historic community”, states Millissa True, On-Site Consultant, SBS Forward, LLC.

    Cameron Fillingame was hired as the marina’s Assistant Dockmaster in January and will be responsible to make sure the marina’s extensive pallet of service enhancements, daily maintenance, and boater delighters are consistently being practiced and executed.

    The marina team also employs two exceptionally trained dock staff, Michael Hawkins and Archie Bricker.  Combined, both gentlemen offer over 50+ years of boating experience and play an important role in the day-to-day services, repairs and upkeep.

    Dockmaster
     
    Essential Functions:
    Key Role:  Must have a marine industry background and possess a high level of business acumen, be a strategic thinker who can manage both the needs of the business while successfully managing marina’s dock staff to provide an exceptional level of customer service to boaters.  Work in tandem with the Marina Operations Specialist in understanding the marina’s accounting system, monthly billing process, budgeting, and key reporting aspects with meticulous attention to detail so monthly financials and revenues are maximized and maintained according to budget.
    This role will also be key in helping manage the marina’s daily reservation log, work with the Marina Ops Specialist to help manage boating.
    Furthermore, individual will manage and work with the Assistant Dockmaster to identify and properly notify boaters in violation of the marinas rules, regulations, and/or guidelines.
    During hurricanes, must be able to execute proper instruction and assistance to boaters and team securing the marina.
     
    Must also understand proper customer care and phone etiquette, along with the ability to demonstrate professional maturity, professional etiquette and diplomacy when dealing with all dock staff, guests and marina partners.
    General Functions: 
    It is the Dockmaster’s responsibility to make sure that all daily, weekly, and monthly tasks are being performed on task by team members.  Furthermore, the likely candidate will be expected to assist all incoming and departing vessels in a safe and professional manner. Provide an exceptional service to all boaters, slip holders, tenants and guests.  Must possess a working knowledge of boats, boating, and navigational methods.  This individual will also be required to use a VHF radio and direct vessels to assigned slip locations and may be required to assist marina guests with fendering and lines before docking.
    This person will oversee the tasks outlined below are being performed by Dockstaff--Housekeeping, cleaning and upkeep of marina facilities such as office, bathrooms, showers, reading nook, trash, recycling, dock/deck washing, equipment repairs, and marina facilities upkeep as required daily and weekly.   Docks must be feather dusted daily.  Floating debris by the docks must be netted 2x daily. 
    Must be able to extend proper attention to repair and maintenance, Wi-Fi, and web camera issues at the marina that need repair or replacing.
    This role will also be expected to maintain the pump-out station and operate the marina’s in-slip pump-out service; understand how to check oil levels daily, along with making sure the holding tank and hose are discharged after every cycle.  
    Insure that all boats will not impact the main docks by setting proper spring line tension.  Adjust lines to the white mooring poles as the water rises and slacken when it subsides, if needed.  Use electric pump to bail out boats after extremely heavy rainfall.  Confidently understand proper fender positioning.  Will be expected to provide assistance in hurricane evacuations and securing the Marina. 
    Additional Responsibilities:
    • Maintain the arrival log
    • Manage the ice deliveries, invoicing, assistance with sales
    • Manage office and marina supplies and replenishment
    • In-slip pumpout scheduling and logging/reporting
    • Guest reservations
    • Filing
    • Respond to guest and tenant phone calls
    • Engage with walk-ins, tenants, and prospects
    • Distribute mail and deliveries
    • Meter readings and meter tracking
    • Identify necessary repairs to the marina facilities, develop a remedial action plan, and see that projects are carried through completion
    • Monitor the daily/weekly preventive maintenance plan for all marina facilities and see to it that all tasks are executed
    • Assist with inside sales leads in the marina in the interest of producing sales leads and actual sales at the marina.
    On occasion, overtime, weekends, and some holiday hours will be required.  This position is classified as a full-time non-exempt position offering between 30-40 hours per week.

    Part Time DOCK ASSISTANT
    If you love boating, working near the water, and helping boaters, then we have the perfect job for you!  In this role, you must be able to do the following:

    Assist all incoming and departing vessels in a safe and professional manner. Customer service skills must be exceptional!

    Must be able use & carry a VHF radio set on ch.16 and use working ch.71 to communicate with approaching vessels and marina office. Direct vessels to assigned slip locations and make owners aware of which side of the vessel to prepare with fenders and lines before docking.

    Must be able to clean the bath and laundry facilities according to the dockmaster’s task list.
    Empty the garbage cans and recycling bins at the head of each dock and pick up any litter in the area, according to the dockmaster’s task list.

    Must possess a good understanding of marina maintenance and repair.  Take care of any dock maintenance issues that need repair/replacing and also take care of the marina’s pump out boat.

    Run and maintain the pump-out station and assist with providing the marina’s in slip pump out service.

    Insure that all boats are properly moored, and must be able to adjust lines as necessary according to dockmaster’s instructions.

    During hurricanes, must be able to provide assistance in evacuations and securing the marina.

    Be prepared to work weekends, holidays, and some overtime as needed.

    Use pumps to bail out boats as necessary.

    Other duties as assigned.

    Must also understand proper customer and phone etiquette, along with the ability to demonstrate professional maturity, professional etiquette and diplomacy when dealing with all guests and partners.

    Part-time, 20 hours per week, flexible schedule. 

    May require weekends and holidays.
