The Aurora Fossil Museum, founded in 1976, is a nonprofit 501c(3) science education resource center. Our mission is to educate the public about paleontology in an engaging manner while emphasizing the natural and cultural history of Eastern North Carolina.
We accomplish this mission through exhibits, interactive inquiry-based activities, outreach programs, events, field studies, and our Aurora Fossil Festival held annually on Memorial Day weekend.Images

View Personal BioCynthia D. CraneCynthia D. Crane, Director of the Aurora Fossil Museum Foundation, Inc., is a paleontologist and geologist whose expertise is on the paleontology of the coastal plain of North Carolina, particularly the Cretaceous. Cynthia has dedicated nearly 20 years to research, outreach, and education efforts of the North Carolina fossil record. Cynthia holds a M.S. Geology degree from East Carolina University (thesis title: Vertebrate Paleontology and Taphonomy of the Late Cretaceous (Campanian) Bladen Formation, Bladen County, North Carolina). She is a Society of Vertebrate Paleontology member, Member and Southeast United States Regional Resource Person (Vertebrate Paleontology and Taphonomy) of the Paleontological Society, member of the Association for Women Geoscientists, Geological Society of America, National Association of Geoscience Teachers, and Honorary Member of the NC Fossil Club.Cynthia D.
