• PIEgrant recipient of $30,000 to be used for The Bate Foundation Individual School Grant Program

    Harold H. Bate was a philanthropist, investor, and retired lumber executive. Through his generosity, Partners In Education was honored to be selected as a grant recipient for $30,000 to be used for The Bate Foundation Individual School Grant Program for the 2016-17 school year. Craven County Schools principals were encouraged to apply for this grant in the following subject areas: Arts, Music, Health and Fitness, and Athletics.  The winners were announced at the October End-of-Month Principals’ Meeting. The principals are pictured, left to right for their teams: 
    • Playground Equipment, $4,995.23 - Kathy Leffler, principal, Arthur W. Edwards Elementary
    • Scoreboard, $3,810.59 - William Byland, principal, Havelock Middle
    • Smart Heart, $2,588.81 - Eleanor Patrick, principal with Guy Pepper, John Carroll, and Kim Scott, Oaks Road Elementary
    • Climbing into Fitness, $4,856.79 - Christopher Germain, principal, with Megan Davis, Brinson Memorial Elementary
    • Outdoor Classroom, $4,000.00 - Erica Phillips, principal with Phyllis Willis, Janet Hatfield, Taylor Babson, Betty Witt, Debbie Myers, and Kim Herring, J.T. Barber Elementary
    • Special Fun for All!, $4,891.00 - Kathy Barber, principal with Delaney Fischer, and Cynthia Keller, Havelock Elementary
    • STEM Lab:  Students Totally Engaged in Music, $5,000.00 – Debra Hurst accepting for Renee Whitford, principal with Luana Palimetakis and Diane Bondurant, James W. Smith Elementary
